After the Ohio Department of Health tried to withhold this information, we now know that about 70% of the people known to have died from COVID-19 in Ohio were residents of nursing homes (“Nursing home patients account for 70% of total coronavirus deaths,” May 22).
It makes you wonder how early in this “crisis” Ohio Health Director Dr. Amy Acton — whose agency is tracking COVID-19 deaths — knew that throwing millions out of work to save 80- and 90-year-olds who were already sheltered in place was the wrong strategy.
Maybe legislative oversight over the edicts of this unelected health director would not be such a bad idea.
