I am a former resident. West Geauga grad.
I miss the leaves turning gold in the fall, and the temperate summers. I live in Columbus now. I miss some of the camaraderie of small towns that dotted the area. It felt very New England-y (my fiance’s family is from Boston).
I’m glad I found this site. While not perfect, it is a good place to discuss various topics. Even if we disagree, it’s nice to see people at least trying to stay civil.
West Geauga was a good school but I don’t miss the favoritism of some teachers there. I was a solid student and worked hard, but never felt I was good enough to be one of West G’s royalty–even though I did sports and was reasonably athletic.
As I grew up I realized it’s not about what you know, but who you know. All the smarts won’t help you if your networks are weak. I realized that I needed to build more networks. West G is an old area and lots of legacy families dating back centuries have lived there and get connections for each other. In addition to the connections mentioned on this site.
I found this site and it was great, but it brought back a lot of memories of decades past regarding this county and its issues, even back in the ’90s and early ’00s when I was in HS.
Life lesson: Life is still like high school, and you just have to do the best you can with what you got.
